The common cold is a mild infection of the upper respiratory tract (nose and throat). Colds are most likely the most frequent type of disease. For example, you could catch a cold after shaking hands with someone who is sick or touching a doorknob that has germs on it, then touching your face. Most people recover from a cold within a week or two. Some people who catch a cold, however, may develop secondary illnesses such as bronchitis or pneumonia. People with compromised immune systems, asthma, or other respiratory disorders are more prone to this.
